I would suggest a "real" 3D programm!
Let us say, 3DS MAX/VIZ or Cinema4D.
AutoCad is quite clumsy and old-fashioned, so I feel myself with hands tied up behind my back when I am asked to model and render in AutoCad.
ArchiCad and them like are a much better choix, but be convined, they hardly compare to the possibilities of MAX or Lightwave or Cinema4D!
Besides, they all are a little bit cheaper than the architectural programms. (Cinema 4D is just around 1700USD, 3DS VIZ is 2000USD).
I myself have a copy of the Cinema. It is easy to learn, cheap and has got a superb radiosity & caustics renderer!Good luck!
