If you are looking for a professional and powerful package, I use Digital Goldsmith (a/k/a Digital Matrix), by GemVision.
The beauty of it is that they did not attempt to reinvent the wheel. GemVision has taken a leading product in the CAD World and built a front-end, specific to the Jewelry industry. This software application is a front-end to Rhino-3D (www.rhino3d.com), which is well know in the CAD world.

Digital Goldsmith offers Jewelry builders (plug-ins) that no other CAD application offers. It has builders for rings, heads, bezels, channels and more. It also calculates volume/metal, for accurate estimate of finished product weight, full image rendering in metals and stones, for emailing (customer preview/approval) or printing of image (for appraisals).

Although the product may appear a bit pricey, I can attest that it is well worth every penny. The learning curve, compared to other software products, is unbelievable. I am using it for two months, and can "out-design" many users of other products, in time and accuracy. You can have a good head start over others without years of CAD experience

Also, customer service and support has been second to none.

You can see a preview of their product at: http://www.imagedome.com/dgmatrix.htm

If you would like any other specifics, you can email me at bsegal@mljlry.com or, you can call them direct at 1(800) 357-6272.

Tell them Barry Segal from Miguel Laufer Jewelry, Miami sent you!

BTW: All this good stuff is from my personal enthusiasm from using their product. Good Luck. Barry
