For that price trueSpace is a very good deal. It has a lot of powerful tools and is fairly easy to learn. As you get better at 3D you may or may not stick with it depending on the direction you follow but it will give you a well rounded introduction to 3D and take you into the profesional realm if that is what you need.

You would be well advised to learn several 3D programs over time but you do have to start somewhere. I have learned and used a number of 3D programs over the years, but for my professional work I would always use trueSpace and Vellum Solids. The two work very well together for me.
