My answer assumes you're using AutoCAD.
The 3D solid model either was not constructed correctly or has corrupted. Either way it is starting again time I think.
In future, to avoid this problem perform an ACIS solids check on your 3D solids models before saving them. In AutoCAD2000 it is in the Modify > Solids Editing > Check menu.
Three final options:
1. Try to recover the corrupted file. In AutoCAD2000 it is in the File > Drawing Utilities > Recover... menu.
2. Rename the backup of the file from .bak to .dwg and open it.
3. AutoCAD applies more integrity checking criteria when opening a file, compared to when inserting a file as a block. If your files ever become corrupted and AutoCAD won't open or recover them, opening a new blank drawing and inserting the corrupted drawing as a block into it, can often work. You can then explode the block and save the file immediately.Hope this helps,
