Please - Forward this Call for Public Comment Tonight!

The EWEB Riverfront Master Plan process has come to the crux point. The EWEB design team has driven off the rails environmentally. Either they get a BIG public message NOW, and make a serious course correction - or the result of this huge planning effort will be another divisive mess that we have to fight to protect our river.

Good Morning All,

Tonight is the EWEB Riverfront Master Plan CAT meeting that will discuss the ecology of the river and importance of the riparian area. Bart Johnson will be making the presentation. Public comment is at about 5:30pm.

I would like to remind people that Bart made a "plea" early on in the CAT meeting sequence, and gave a presentation that can be seen on the EWEB website at:

http://www.eweb.org/public/documents/riverfront/salmon.pdf

Bart's words in his previous presentation:

"Proposal: We need a conceptual sea change in how we conceive
urban riverfront design. We must begin from the premise that
a healthy river is a dynamic living system."

As many of you may know, I am a lone voice on the CAT for ecological functions and championing a restored river's edge that balances the enviornmental issues with development issues. Right now the largest open space that Rowell-Brokaw has identified is the toxic waste site at the east end of the property, that can not be developed. It is not even the best location for a park, let alone the questionable site conditions for people.

Please come tonight if you can. I am hoping that Bart will tell a similar story to the one he told us about 12 months ago.

Sincerely,

Pat Johnston
