Hi Jan;
The lists and policies sound good to me.

I find it hard to believe the folks who took the reigns of Neighborhood Services didn't know or didn't ask about a newsletter editor mailing list. Beth and I set one up years ago and used it often for all the purposes you mention below. 

Beth was ahead of the curve in many respects and, of course, this sort of list was invaluable when it came to City press releases, announcements, etc. All part of ongoing support.

  Neighborhood Leaders and NLC reps,

  This message is about email lists.  As was announced at last week's NLC
  meeting, the NLC now maintains 3 separate email lists.

  1. nlc at eugeneneighbors.org<mailto:nlc at eugeneneighbors.org> - this list has been around for a while, and
  over the years has grown to include 29 NL/NLC Reps, 13 City staffers, and
  17 former leaders and/or current board members.  Anything sent to this
  list is a public record because of the public addresses of City staffers.

  2. na_leads at eugeneneighbors.org<mailto:na_leads at eugeneneighbors.org> - this list is new, and includes ONLY the
  29 NL/NLC Reps.  The events surrounding Beth Bridges' resignation pointed
  out the fact that NLs have no easy way to communicate with each other
  about sensitive matters that are not appropriate for public distribution. 
  The intent of this list is to be relatively more private, and as such will
  have a few rules.  More on that below.

  3. na_editors at eugeneneighbors.org<mailto:na_editors at eugeneneighbors.org> - this list is also new, and is intended
  as an easy way for neighborhood newsletter editors to communicate with
  each other, send around interesting articles, etc.  Again, with Beth's
  departure, I discovered that no one at the City had a list of newsletter
  editors (so I could not invite them to Beth's farewell party personally). 
  I will need your help in populating this list.  Please ask your newsletter
  editor if they would like to be on this list, and if yes, send me her/his
  name and contact information.

  Back to the na_leads list.  There are a couple understandings I want to
  explore with you.

  * If you received this message, you are on the list.  However, staying on
  it is entirely voluntary.  If you would like to be removed, please let me
  know.  The intent is to limit membership to active NL/NLC Reps.

  * If you are using an email address supplied by your place of business,
  and your business has a policy about email being public records, please
  let me know what that policy is.  The intent of this list is that messages
  will NOT be public records.

  * Finally, we are asking that you agree NOT to forward any messages you
  receive from this list without the permission of the original sender.  If
  this a problem, please let me know.

  I welcome any feedback you may have about any of the three NLC lists.
