Greetings NLC.
Here is an invitation and description of the special meeting for NLC (not
just an update). Please circulate with your boards (although I understand
this invitation has been sent to them as well). We would appreciate that
you RSVP.
Thanks.....Heidi

Over the past year, the Eugene Comprehensive Lands Assessment (ECLA) project
has been actively progressing through its first phase of answering the
question: How much land is necessary to meet our community needs over the
next 20 years? Throughout the process, we have been assisted in these
efforts by a Community Advisory Committee, which has included a
representative from the Neighborhood Leaders Council (NLC). We have entered
a phase where many of the technical products are now completed and it is our
desire to share this information with, and get feedback from, some key
stakeholder groups that were identified early in the process. The
Neighborhood Leaders Council and other interested neighborhood
representatives are one of these key groups.
On *Monday, August 31 at 5:30 pm*, we have scheduled a meeting where City
staff and consultants will make a presentation specifically for NLC. This
meeting will be held in the Bascom/Tykeson Room of the Eugene Public
Library. The meeting will include a presentation on the project and the
resulting data thus far, followed by ample time for questions and feedback
from you. More than just an informational meeting, we value your feedback as
community members who have spent time immersed in neighborhood and land use
issues and may have important viewpoints for us to consider before moving
forward.
It is important to note the larger context of this project. While this phase
of the project will determine how much land is needed to meet forecasted
population growth between 2010 and 2030, it will not deal with how to meet
this need and what if any changes are needed to the Urban Growth Boundary.
This process will occur during the next phase of the project starting in
2010. At that time, there will be extensive public involvement as part of a
community dialogue about how we grow as a community and the policy changes
that may be needed to get there.
I have provided a link to the project website should you get curious before
the meeting, but we are setting it up so that you can come in with no real
prior knowledge of the project. If you aren’t able to join us, stay tuned
for an announcement about the larger public meetings that will likely occur
in early October as another great chance to get an overview of the study and
ask questions about the process. We look forward to seeing you on August
31.
