[NLC] Fw: 4J hosts Feb. 25 community meeting regarding Civic Stadium--CORRECTION

Oops. My mistake. The meeting where 4J will take Public input on their decision to demolish Civic Stadium is on Feb. 25th, not April 25th.

I would like to encourage all neighborhood leaders to come to the 4J school district board meeting tonight to protest the board's movement toward destroying this community resource in order to acquire short term gain. Yes, we know that the economy is poor and that the school district is struggling to provide a good quality education for all our community's children, but Civic Stadium is worth far more than the price of the real estate it sits on. Life is more than a slightly more expanded school education. The money 4J would get from the sale would be gone in short order, but their destruction of this Eugene icon would cost them political capitol that will last for a much longer time. How much greater damage will our youth suffer if the school district cannot get bond measures passed due to distrust and ill will? The economy will soon recover and the school budget will benefit but if Civic Stadium is destroyed then we will lose forever a wellspring of spiritual renewal and an historic spot whose activities help bind our community together.

So please step up to the plate and make your values know, by letter or voice, tell the 4J Board that we need this stadium. For our children, for ourselves, for our future together.--Carlos.

Well isn't this interesting? The 4J school district board sends us a notice of the April 25th meeting so we can comment on their decisions on selling the Civic Stadium property but don't mention that they will likely be making those decisions at the board meeting on Wednesday, the 17th, or that we can express our opinions before they make a decision. Are they afraid the Public might sway their resolve to forge ahead with their plan to demolish the stadium and sell the property?--Carlos.

Dear South Eugene area neighborhood leaders,
(Friendly Area Neighbors, Amazon Neighbors, Jefferson Westside Neighbors and West University Neighbors)

The Eugene School Board is considering whether to sell the Civic Stadium property. While the stadium is located in the Friendly neighborhood, there is great interest in this issue across the South Eugene region. We would appreciate your help in sharing this information with others in your neighborhood.

The school district will hold a community meeting next week to solicit input on the proposal to sell the stadium property through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process and to apply to rezone and then sell two adjacent residential parcels. You and your neighbors are invited to attend this meeting to hear more about the proposal to sell the property and to offer your input. Please join us:

  Community Input Meeting
  Thursday, February 25 at 7 p.m.
South Eugene High School – cafeteria
  400 East 19th Avenue

At the meeting, Eugene School District staff will:
  - review the proposal to sell the Civic Stadium property,
  - review the school district's decision-making timeline, and
  - ask for comments on the proposal to sell the property.

Written comments to the Eugene School Board may also be sent to board at 4j.lane.edu or mailed to the Superintendent’s Office, 200 N. Monroe St., Eugene OR 97402.

The board plans to discuss the disposition of the Civic Stadium property at meeting in February, March and April that will lead to a decision on April 21 regarding whether or not to offer the property for sale. To learn more, including information about the board’s decision-making process and additional opportunities for public input, please visit www.4j.lane.edu/civicstadium.

To be added to 4J’s interested parties list, please send an email with your name and email address to: CivicStadium at 4j.lane.edu.
  Regards,

  Barb Bellamy
