*Suburbia occupies a central place in our economy and way of life. Half
of Americans live in suburbia and it generates tens of millions of jobs.
Suburbia can also claim ownership for a large share of climate change,
resource depletion, environmental and public health degradation, global
instability and culture in decline.*
*These two presentations will show how suburbia can be transformed from
a liability of historic proportions to become an immense tool for
civilization repair.*
*Both presentations focus on suburbia, the seminar will go into greater
detail and include a tour of Jan's ¼ acre suburban property in the River
Road Neighborhood in Eugene. The presentations will make reference to
important models of transforming suburbia in Port Townsend, Wa; Davis,
California and numerous places in Eugene.*
*Key Words – home economics, permaculture, neighborhood, front yard
garden, work party, multiple benefits, local economics, block planning,
neighborhood mapping, human potential*
*Jan has been transforming his ¼ acre suburban property for over ten
years. Its a good story but its only the start. The presentations will
include many fotos that will show how all the tools and models for
transforming suburbia already exist.*
