Subject: Holiday party tomorrow night

I know it's late notice (and a duplicate for many of you), but I wanted to invite you to the Annual DoubleDon Kahle-Bishoff Holiday Bash tomorrow night, 7 PM until whenever.

Retired R-G columnist Don Bishoff started this party in 1959. It moved to my house in 2003, making Don's wife Mary Beth much happier. It's become an exercise in ridiculosity — not unlike bringing people poles apart together to discuss their version of "the hopes and fears of all the years."

I'm sure that your social calendar is filled for tomorrow night already, but if you can stop by in between other commitments, we'd be happy to make (precious little) room for you and yours.

All the details are at the link below. You can RSVP there, but really there's no point. Come if you can.

Cheers,

Don Kahle

The (at least) 50th Annual Bishoff-Kahle Holiday Bash
Help us give FOOD for Lane County a ton of holiday cheer!
Hosted by Dons Kahle & Bishoff (plus Mary Beth)
Saturday, Dec 11, 2010 (7:00 PM) at Kahle's too-small house for so many
400 E. 32th Ave., Eugene, OR

Ducks aside, 2010 hasn’t gone the way many of us hoped. Two wars continue, national leaders in disarray, school budgets facing huge cuts, our favorite ex-Mayor taken from us, and many, many people hurting financially. But merrymaking must continue, beginning a second half-century for host Don Bishoff (with Mary Beth) and what only seems that long for spare host Don Kahle. Empty your pantry for FOOD for Lane County, bring also your favorite libation, and join us for a while.

* * *
Every year we promise that we’ll do something to lessen the crowding. We broke our only cork screw in 2004. We moved the party to an empty house in 2006, to the week after Halloween in 2007, to the night of a Ducks home game in 2008, to a Sunday in 2009.

Next year we’re going to invite smaller people.

But in 2010, we’ll rely on good old fashioned guilt. Every year, we ask guests to bring an item or two for FOOD for Lane County. This year we mean it. Times are tough. We want to provide a ton of good cheer, literally. Bring an armload. Drop it at the door. If you forget, drive to the grocery store.

Then join us for conversation, conviviality and consternation about the stern nation we’ll all be facing in 2011. We’re counting on a better future.

We provide minimal snacks, ice, and ambience.

Ruth Bascom will not be available to lead our carol sing at 9 PM, but current Mayor Kitty Piercy has agreed to lead (a cappella) in Ruth’s absence.
