As I understand it, LTD will present information -- and solicit opinions --
about:
1) The purpose of and need for a west Eugene EmX (Bus Rapid Transit)
extension;
2) Evaluation criteria for assessing which route and location of
stations is best; and
3) A range of alternative approaches, routes and station locations to
evaluate in greater detail next year.
My understanding is that at the next full WEC meeting on October 24-25, we
intend to review information from LTD, brainstorm our own ideas, discuss,
and if possible arrive at consensus recommendations around the three points
listed above.
I also understand that the deadline for public comments to LTD is on or
around November 6, 2007.
Although there will be future opportunities to comment on plans for the west
Eugene EmX extension, this initial ³scoping phase² will to an extent frame
the issues and influence what is discussed later. LTD is aiming to reach a
general decision about the west Eugene EmX extension -- route and perhaps
station locations -- within the next 12 months.
The WEC Land Use and Transportation Committee has started discussing these
issues in detail, and will be meeting again in a couple week to help provide
some ideas to the full WEC group at the October 24-25 meeting.
On behalf of the WEC Land Use and Transportation Committee,
Rob
