[WEC-Env] [WEC-Coord] A small request

I would like to weigh and mention that as I understood the structure of the
WEC committees, the co-convenors were the roles that were assigned.
Co-convenor conveys a very different level of responsibility than a
co-chair. My point is that as a member of a committee I would like to see
everything that is pertinent to my work on the WEC. I appreciate the
opportunity to review the work of others and think about it. I don't
believe it is the role of a co-convenor to accept the responsibility to
review and then distribute all information going to the committees. It
should just freely be available. If this gets to be too much e-mail, I can
easily delete it.

Respectfully yours,
Pat Johnston

I took the time to read through this long e-mail dialog to find the

Dear Friends,

This particular thread of discussion appears to me to have progressed
beyond the point where it may be most fruitful to continue in the email
format.

Be that as it may.

However this thread of discussion may go forward, I'm hope all involved
might stay in contact with two possible truths:

1) I think we all value both concision and reserve in emails, to preserve
our valuable time.

2) I think we all value openness and completeness in communication, with a
minimum of filtering internal to the collaborative.

I wonder if we might find such ways to work together that they support both
of these principles?

all best,

Kevin

Hi, Rob,

Thanks for you note, but last week I sent an email to the Committee about
what we would be covering in our committee meeting and you immediately sent
a review of what your committee is doing.

When I sent some information to the Committee on idling vs.building new
lanes (which was an item which had been discussed within the Env. Committee
as needing some information), Larry immediately sent a note implying that
the whole discussion was an example of enviros not taking people into
account, not wanting to build roads, etc. Instead it was simply the first
piece of modeling/estimation we had on a question about which we had
wondered whether there was information/modeling/estimation.

So I was thinking that given that since both you and Larry are on emails
that go to our Env. Committee, though you aren't on the Committee, it would
be good to send information you wanted to go to our Committee to me and
Susan, and we'd either bring it to the Committee printed out, or notify
them of some information at a site, or whatever, depending on what it is.

If you are sending materials to the entire Collaborative, or (better yet),
a very short note with a URL for the materials, of course that would go to
everyone.

But so few people read (or want, and may eventually turn off) zillions of
emails, I'm just requesting the system of sending materials to me and
Susan...and we will make sure the Committee knows of them one way or the
other.

Does that sound ok?

Mary

P.S. When I missed the phone call in Utah, Rob, I followed it up with a
conversation with Kevin Matthews --- he didn't think it was necessary to
re-schedule the three-way call.
