I hope what I said about my Sabastion rendering makes sense. Let me try again. I ask the architect to send the basic geometry of the building-no bricks, stone siding etc. I import the floor plan into DW and keep what I need to layout the exteriors front. I import the elevation and using the align tool primarily, I constuct the elevation moving the 2D elevation lines onto the plans. So i end up with a wire frame model instead of a solid model. I cannot tell the time it saves me. I hope you understand the concept that if I could use a magic wand and pick an area descibe by lines rather than the lines themselves it would at the very most be 4 times faster.
I export the model into Photoshop and cast shadows. Casting shadows takes about 1/2 hour to an hour. I prefer casting my own shadows because I can descibe the architecture much better than any cad renderer. To do this you have to have a pretty good understanding how shadows are cast.
DW was not designed to do what I use it for. I guess it really is a massing modeler for design analysis. But I am an illustrator not a modeler. Unfortunately there really is no direct software solution for what I do. I would think there would be a larger market for illustration than modeling
In my opinion this is by far the best method of Cad illustration I have yet seen. It is the compination of a DXF file, DW, Photoshop3 and Painter5 along with the fastest PC you can find is the fastest, most accurate and has the most mass appeal.
If anyone is interested I will be at MacWorld.
