An after thought...
One thing that I think really helps bring out realism, regardless of using Artlantis shaders or other textures, is to set the "wood grain" in the proper direction. A little forethought in creating the objects would allow you to easily reapply the same woodgrain textures in the proper direction. A simple example would be a 'picture frame'. We'll typically create it as a single rectangular object with a cutout in the middle of it. Unfortunatly, the result is "grain" running proper on two sides and improper on the other two. If the frame was made up of 4 small pieces, the proper "grain" directions can be accomplished. That little change can make a world of diference to the interpreting mind.
Bob, do you use Artlantis' "wood grain" shaders? I haven't done enough interiors with close-up wood images yet to know how well they might works. However, I'm hoping the will work fine when the time comes. I'm sure that you have tried many of them on furniture components. By the way, do you consider this need to run wood grains in proper directions when you create your beautiful 3D objects. If I buy and use your 3D objects, are they typically pre-textured? and/or colored? Or are they more like 'unfinished furniture' that we would need to apply the textures and/or colors later? Either way, I'm sure we can adjust them for specific needs.
