Gary,
Thanks for your kind comments.
As for the lights, some times I'm inclined to put a light on the porch if the shadow covers the whole door, or just to add a little interest if I think it looks boring. I really want to do some evening renderings, but I just haven't had the opportunity as of yet.
The houses are all modeled, with the exception of the arched detail on one of the brick Queen Anns, which was done in photoshop. I wish the jpeg would have been at a higher resolution to show all the dentil molding and baulesters, as well as the rafters on the Craftsman, which all modeled really well.
The landscapes are from the photo garden cd(sierra) that I'm using, as well as some actual photos of trees that I took. Obviously, I'm a gardener at heart!
The textures are all mine, mostly created from actual photographs. That's one of the things I didn't have time to fix on the new houses - the roofs don't always tile right, so I have to go in on photoshop and use the cloning tool to add some irregularity.
I've been results that I really like lately using artlantis and dw to make shadows on the foreground and reflections in the windows. I put in a block in dw about 50ft high, 1ft deep, and about twice as long as the house about 50ft in front of the house. I then make it invisible in artlantis and apply a texture of trees I created, and play with the scale and sun setting to cast shadows that I like. Oh- and I've also been using the mirror for all the windows.
I seem to be getting pretty quick at these - I did six for the rehabarama job in 5 days, and 8 for homearama in 7. Those are long days though - I'm not sure I could put an hour figure on it. Maybe somewhere between 5 - 9 hrs a piece. Its hard to say because I work at home and have two small children, so I work at naptime and after they're in bed - sometimes most of the night. Crazy hours - only a couple more years until they're in schooland I work an eight hour day again!
Thanks again for your comments,
Andrea
