Very nice work, i've never used arlantis, but here are a couple of links to very good lightwave tutorials, on trees, and maybe it's principles can be easily translated to arltantis. They usually involve clip maps and some sort of fractal noise to get a random feel.

And here's one that may interest you, about making trees, but not the building part, but the surfacing one
