Ergonomically, shelves above the waist are impingement syndromes waiting to happen. Frequently accessed items (files, supplies, etc) should be within 15 to 20" of shoulder joint.

read "OCCUPATIONAL BIOMECHANICS" by Chaffin

making 'cool' furniture that is biomechanically correct can be tough, but is a real need these days.
