Eddie

Greg is absolutely correct. The RS232 port to ethernet adapter from PowerPlot requires to be driven by the matching PowerPlot driver.

Since the PowerPlot drivers are - NOT - OS X compatible, the G4 would require to be booted under Classic mode to run PowerPlot Drivers installed under OS 9.2.2 (aka Classic mode) and OS 9.2.2's Chooser.

PowerPlot drivers provided RTL and HPGL but never postscript.

The culprit causing the internittancy would be the Asante Print bridge.

Check your Asante Print model with Asante's support for OS X compatibility.

OS X will cause older Asante Print adapters to go intermittantly in a mixed environment and require rebooting of the AP adapter.

Possible "solutions" are:
a) In OS X, ensure Local Talk is enabled. (btw LocalTalk is disable as a default in 10.3 aka Panther.)
b) pull OS X out of the equationand reboot everything in the network including Asante Print,
c) Check out Asante's forums:
http://www.asante.com/forums/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=12
particularly: http://www.asante.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=993

d) replace the old/ancient "AsantePrint" with a more current/compatible "AsanteTalk" LocalTalk -Ethernet bridge.

Last but not least: Sometimes intermittancy will be the symptoms of a failing adapter power supply.

BTDT Had the "fun".

d) solved our intermittancy problem. :-)
