Office-wide drawing standards are considered a must for most firms with more than a few poeple, although I suspect that all too much time is devoted to it in most firms ragradless of size. They are constantly in transition in my experience, and ultimately a certain amount of tolerance for personal preferences among designers and drafters is developed.
From my perspective as a sole practitioner architect who has had 2 employees max: Over many years using PowerCadd (almost all for single family residential work), no matter how many drawing templates I have made, either for new houses or additions, with drawing size, layer and sheet setups, symbols and title blocks I thought would be useful at the various design stages, none has survived. I now start each job using a default stationery that has my preferred file-specific settings in Drawing Setup, as well as color palettes, line weights, arrows, dashes etc, and with experience have found myself quickly setting up and tearing down layers and sheets as I go, to meet the requirements of the job and the needs of each presentation.
