I am not sure I could use it either but imagine you can set two points and then a ghost of a french curve would appear (you can choose from several patterns).As you drag your mouse back and forth the curve moves along always intersecting the points. When you stop the the curve is clipped to the points. Of course "option" will flip the curve.

Alternately the curve could be defined as tangent to two lines, but that is another story.

It would be fun, but not sure how useful.
