Brasilia as Urban Design

The photo is very revealing. It clearly shows how the modern way of seeing was focused on individual buildings (often well done, to be sure) but was totally unconcerned with shaping urban space. Costa's plan for Brasilia was a two-dimensional, non-spatial diagram, totally inhuman in scale, with vast empty spaces unactivated by any program.

Doesn't the parking lot give it that distinctly "modern' touch?
God, this could be anywhere--Brazil, India, Malaysia--today. Well, it was supposed to be the "International Style," wasn't it?
