I recall years ago hearing that most people who had to work in Brasilia during the week got into their cars and drove back to Rio as soon as the work week was over, leaving the capitol city even more of an empty , surreal landscape than during the week. In fairness, however, I've also heard that in more recent years there have developed some more intimate residentail neighborhoods that provide some relieve from the grandiose pomp of the place, so that it may become "home" to some residents.
