I was stationed at Gutleut Kaserne from 72-74 with the 709th MP BN. I handled the crypto codes, etc. I made frequent trips to the IG Farben Bldg to pick up classified documents...I remember going to the IG Farben Building during the 73 Israeli conflict. I remember walking down the huge corridors of the IG Farben building with the polished floors, hearing my feet resonate as I walked through those historical halls. It was spooky and exhilirating all at the same time. The 709th was going to be sent to Israel if war broke out. Our marching orders were to supervise and take care of POW's...we actually had all our vehicles lined up on the cobblestone street inside Gutleut in anticipation of going to the airport to be airlifted over to the Mid East. I went back to Frankfurt in 2001 and visited all my old haunts. It was fantastic and disappointing...the old Gutleut had sure changed! Some of the guys I remember...Sgt Frankie Foggin, Sgt Sparks, Capt Foley, Sgt Slavin, Sgt May to name but a few!
