In answer to your question, I don't know but it seemed like an awful lot of steps when I descended in the late 60's.

The name, by the way, came from one of the owners of Mabley and Carew which occupied a block just north of the Carew Tower for many years.

Many of the other questions I've seen posted (sq footage etc) could easily be answered with a little effort and the use of a library.

Some one said a few posts back that the Carew Tower was ugly. Having been there (and often having gone out of my way to be there) I really think that it is beautiful - particularly, as some have noted, the public area encompassing the first few floors.
