I was in Frankfurt in early May of 2000, and was shocked to find a 6' fence around the entire building grounds and approximately 3' of grass around the building site. I was an optometrist at the 10th General Dispensary from June '65 until Oct. '67 and fitted a lot of glasses on soldiers with strange sounding last names and "I can't tell you what I do, but I listen to the radio a lot". I think they just might have been monitoring radio traffic in eastern Europe...

When did they tear down the Bachelor Officers' Quarters across the street from the I.G. Building? I looked for my old one, but there is a parking lot there, and they have built several new apartment buildings. I have many good memories of brunch in the Terrace Officer's Club on Sundays.

I was also surprised that they had completely rebuilt the old opera house and constructed a walking mall where traffic was very heavy in the past. Time marches on, and since the Russians went broke and skulked home, the Germans don't seem to need us anymore! Very well writen article on the old IG Hochhaus! Thank you...
