i am constantly appalled by the way architects pedestalize this book, though i have noticed that alot of lawyers enjoy it too, which makes sense after reading it. it is important to understand it as Ryand doctrine of capitalism and individualism, and i am ashamed that the architect was the perfect character for such propoganda. the portrayal of the architect as misunderstood genius battling alone against society, perpetuates the complete disregard many in the profession have for the very real and valuable desires and beliefs of the client, the inhabitant, the pedestrian. architecture is not art, not a solo performance but one which is wonderfully enmeshed in society and peoples lives. those architects who follow their god given ego and ignore those people most effected are what give the profession the bad reputation it has in many countries today.
i think its essential to question why its enjoyed, and how it plays into the architects meglomaniac fantasies.
