hi Jyotsna
I had a similar thesis topic (well, I think its similar). I designed a prison and I think the motivation and the psychology behind a prison and a mental asylum are quite similar as both the people have to be mentally treated. I did a case study of a mental asylum in order to understand as to how with the kind of security restrictions this kind of a building typology provides, how with architecture u can create an environment which is mentally and spiritually reformative. I think landscaping would play a major role in ur project. nyways, try n understand the building typology well first of all, then proceed to the designing bit.
All the Best
