Programs vary in their emphasis, and without knowing where you are applying it would be difficult to psyche-out the preferred stance. So be yourself--that will be most persuasive in the end.

A good general ploy, however: the "architecture-ought-to-be-more-than..." gambit.

This suggests (without committing youself) that you are striving for something beyond the ordinary, and flatters the faculty who cannot help but suppose you have come to the right place! :-)
