Various stadia and other fabric roofed structures use pneumatic pressure to keep them inflated. Most of these are attached to a concrete or concrete and steel building.
I can not recall any completely pneumatic stadia. The focus of the article referred to in the other forum was completely pneumatic structures. Perhaps we could call them "balloon buildings."
Architectural research question: How can we use inflatable structures to erect a building, fill the structure with a gas or liquid that acts as a catalyst to turn the structure into a rigid framed building? Can we foam concrete and steel or plastic fibers that would be the equivalent structurally of current building techniques? Can we build pneumatic structures that become rigidly stable that would be comparable to current structures? Would this be desirable? Economical?
Concerning pneumatic domed stadia: Is it safe to limit egress by reducing the door openings, a requirement to maintain inflation pressures?
