UVA, for better or for worse, is more akin the the Northeastern Establishment schools (Ivy League) than the others. North Carolina was very strong many decades ago, but we don't hear so much about it these days (at least up here, in the Northeast).
I don't know about Clemson either. From this remote vantage point, UVA sounds like the better-known school--but we are biased up here and regard UVA as one of our own.
