Hype (or PR) is the name of the game. Client and architect got a million dollars worth of publicity (arranged we suppose by paid public relations consultants)--which is why clients engage"star" architects to do these rather inconsequential show pieces.
Name recognition causes editors to notice press releases and leads to their publication (even in this magazine, we recall).
Good for you, for seeing the superficiality of it all!
