im not sure what to say because the possible range of ideas that are available are endless, and i cant guess at what your thinking. It may be interesting for you to look at some of neil denari's projects, especially a book called gyroscopic horizons. He has a very large theory on the relationships of columns and walls as a system to design with. He relates it to the idea of a piece of origami, in terms that the building becomes a large folded substance where column becomes wall, wall becomes beam etc. This may not give an answer, though i feel you may not be looking for one, it may help you further your thought process.
