Hi Theo,
Well to embark on such a topic you seem to be in the right place, as I am aware in classic Greek architecture the proportions of great temple facads were based on and calculated based on characterstic of the human vision, i.e what we may call as parllax corrections today, well you may explore and highlight this, to start with....
(PS you may find some relevent content in a book by Sir Banister Fletcher's HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE)
