The design will basically depend on the gradient and slope of the site in accordance with its length and widht. design along the countours is always the best solution as it is easy to maintain the slope required for the access roads. also a cut-fill formula helps to economise the construction and the building could be designed as if it springs up from the ground...as it was always talked about by Frank Lloyd Wright.
I was designing for a similar steep site, but it was to be a resort.
also designing along the contours will help you orient yur design towards the view side and evolve the concept in relation.
