Well, the money is only fair here in the states; one can live an average middle class existance, or a little better. It is not a reason to get into the profession. Neither is glamour. The work can be mundane, and s l o w . You have the love it to get into it. The benefits are that you can be creative, it is challenging, it utilizes a variety of skill sets, and you can actually visit the fruits of your labor. Some of the best young architects are the least well paid because they tend to gravitate towards the "boutique" design studios.
