hi meetu

i think you have come know a bit about conservation by now going by the replies.conservation is very demanding but at the same time the ability to preserve and restore a structure to its previous glory gives immense satisfaction. the main reason why conservation is not picking up in india is the lack of foresight regarding possible future use and more importantly lack of money.in fact conservation for conservation's sake is quite diifcult to sustain . unless the building can be used to generate money the authorities wont want to invest in it. that is the reality everywhere. so it is important that along with conservation an adaptive reuse pattern be deloped. this reuse should go with the nature of the building and respect its sanctity .the building does not necessarily have to make profit for the govt, if it can pay for its own maintainance its good enough. there are many succesful examples of this kind , like the charminar , victoria memorial etc.find out more such cases and study them.

so i'd suggest whatever site you chose think of an adaptive reuse solution.

bye.
