Go to a site and look for all the natural and manmade impacts on the site such as: Property Lines, Site Dimensions, Site Area, Contour of Land, Slope Analysis where site slope is steep or gradual, Wetlands, Vegetation, Views to and from Site, Site Noise Generators, WAter Ways, Flood Zones, Local Zoning Impacts, Site Access areas, Vehicular Access AReas, Adjacent Roads, Adjacent Structures, Edge Conditions, Adjacent Land Uses, Telephone Lines, Power Lines, Storm Sewer Lines, Gas Lines, Sanitary Sewer Lines and anything else you can come up with regarding the site.

Once you have identified all these Site Impacts, you have completed an analysis of the Site...and from that criteria it will then lead you to how to site your building, the size of your building, the orientation of your building, and how to best take advantage of a specific site given the FACTS about your site. Its easy once you have gone out and analyized and then tested your site.
