Many schools offer degrees in Architecture with certificates in Historic Preservation, usually earned in sync or series. There are tons of schools out East, you just need to keep hunting. Try:

there is a listing of all the arch schools in the USA on that site

Also, many schools have programs where they help set you up with internships so you get the practical experience
