I want to apply to programs in a year for Master of either Architecture or Landscape Architecture (and enter fall 05). I have a BA from a liberal arts college in an irrelevant major. I already have confidence in my own technical and creative artistic ability, and theory of architecture, so I am pretty self-motivated for putting together a good portfolio.

But I do need to get some hands-on experience in a relevant environment to fill the voids left by my education to date. It will be important to get good letters of reccommendation from people who know my work in a related setting, and more importantly, I am super eager to do something I will really enjoy. My current work life is a dead end.

So I ask: Can anyone point me in a direction for finding a really cool job or volunteer experience in a setting related to architecture or design? Work that is possible with only a random BA and a lot of drive? Please tell me it's possible. I live in Seattle, so I'm sure there are plenty of opportunities out there....

cheers
