fractals are based on geometric calculations as laxmi has mentioned each bigger unit is the multiplication of smaller units.
fractals can be done for organic modules also like a fern leaf is the multiplication of each and every petals in it similarly its likewise fot nutshells also.
its jus attaining a fibbonocci series in mathematics.
most of the famous designs such as museum of unlimited extentionsetc are derived through fractal geometry only.
