The reason we are on a computer is because of the repitious design of residential projects. My technique allows for fast completion but keeps the look of our hand-painted renderings. The $1,000,000 St. Albans House took about 9 hours to do, modeling 2.5 hours and rendering 6.5.
We try to do as little modeling as possible. The windows, doors, louvers, gables etc... are parts in my DW library. We don't do walls just corner posts because it easier to finish the exported hidden line view in Photoshop3.(This technique does not work in Photoshop4 & 5). We add shadows by copying the object that is casting the shadow by pasting into the object that the shadow is being cast onto. For istance we use the magic wand tool to select a gable. We copy it and then paste it into the the wall below. We use our scanned hand-painted scans to finish the rendering. I like Painter5 to hand paint the roof.
I do not know if this will work for everyone or every project.Computers and Cad seems best for repitious work like these homes. When we do commmercial work or interiors I prefer to hand-paint the project. To use my technique you have to knowledge: how to cast shadows, Photoshop & Painter and be able to create your own picts for your personal look.
This gallery is great because the images so far are all so different.Bravo Kevin!
